ABOUT US

CEA Digital Law ®

The Euro-American Committee of Digital Law - CEA Digital Law ® (registered with the Companies Registration Office (CRO) under company number 698529, Dublin, Ireland) is an international non-profit organisation bringing together legal and technology professionals from both sides of the Atlantic.

The Committee operates primarily in the Republic of Ireland, but in the spirit of a global non-profit organisation: for legal and technology professionals from both sides of the Atlantic, and also for the public at large, the ultimate beneficiaries of its services. Its members and officers reflect a broad range of expertise in the techno-legal field and across the entire ecosystem of the new Digital Revolution.

Our members come from both law and technology: lawyers, technologists and legal-tech profiles who join after their careers have been carefully reviewed, because we only bring together outstanding profiles. Membership of CEA Digital Law is free.

Our purpose

The purpose for which the Committee is established is the advancement of education and research in techno-legal matters, both digital and non-digital, including ordinary legal and technological issues.

Any income generated through the exercise of these powers is applied to the advancement of the main purpose.

An independent forum

Blue world map with network nodes linking the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia

We are an independent organisation offering a forum devoted entirely to the legal and techno-legal issues of the digital age.

From a comparative European and American perspective, our mission is to create unprecedented opportunities for building further global networks and for exchanging knowledge and experience with experts and colleagues worldwide, contributing to the prosperity of the Republic of Ireland and of a global society immersed in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

CEA Digital Law ® is also a forum for the exchange of ideas and the in-depth examination of related issues. These exchanges take place in a variety of settings, allowing for broad attendance and participation.

Our defining features

CEA Digital Law ® is a non-profit organisation. Our defining features are:

Independent of institutions, public authorities and political parties.
We work for the social good.
And we do so on a non-profit basis.
Teams of staff, collaborators and volunteers in 25 countries.

CEA Digital Law ® is a recognised point of reference in the sectors in which we operate, owing to the quality and effectiveness of the programmes we implement, which bring about highly positive social change in the communities where they are carried out and globally.

We are firmly committed to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, international law and justice, as well as to an international order based on the rule of law, the indispensable foundations of a more peaceful, prosperous and just world.

Empowering women and girls

This does not happen in watertight compartments labelled “offline” and “online”; rather, it requires progress on several fronts simultaneously. Government entities, civil society groups and private sector actors must work together so that ICT initiatives are systematically integrated with broader efforts to expand the choices and capabilities of women and girls in the labour market, the home, school and public life. We will make Women’s STEMLaw a reality.

The 2015 UN Sustainable Development Goals include a significant commitment to using ICTs to promote women’s empowerment, as well as to connecting people in the least developed countries to the internet. Data on the digital gender gap have so far been scarce, and the goals run to 2030; that is why we are firmly committed to contributing to them.

Seeking to highlight and empower women, CEA Digital Law ® offers various types of resources and programmes for that purpose. Information, research and capacity building are the pillars of this initiative, which also includes specific actions to improve women’s employability — and to prepare girls for the future — in the legal sector, related fields and the technology sphere.

Training, alliances and inclusion

We are a useful educational resource for those practising in this new area of law: we keep abreast of recent developments and create opportunities to meet other professionals with shared interests.
We maintain alliances with various organisations to promote the broader field of Digital Law and training, and with associations involved in promoting digital events and initiatives.
We carry out activities to provide employment for people with limited technological skills, provided that any surplus obtained is applied solely to the Committee’s main purpose.
We extend our services, training courses and special consideration to disadvantaged people, without denying admission to any eligible person.

In the event of dissolution

If, upon the winding up or dissolution of the entity and after all debts and liabilities have been satisfied, any assets remain, they shall not be distributed among the members but shall be transferred to another charitable body or institution whose main purposes are similar to those of the Committee.
