Luis Adrián Salazar Solís, until May 28, 2020 Minister of Science, Technology and Telecommunications (Ministro de Ciencia, Tecnología y Telecomunicaciones, MICITT)  of Costa Rica, has joined the Euro-American Committee of Digital Law – CEA Digital Law after resigning from the Costa Rican Ministry.

“There are ideological differences that lead me to step aside, so as not to interfere with the government’s projects and aims; I cannot agree with the use of resources from the Fondo Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Fonatel) for other purposes,” Salazar stated in his resignation letter.

“Infrastructure must go beyond roads; it must also focus on building digital capabilities in telecommunications and innovation, which will allow us to truly enter the fourth industrial revolution,” he added.

On April 30, the government announced that it would seek to use ₡170 billion from Fonatel to contain the growing fiscal deficit caused by the Covid-19 emergency.

While we at CEA Digital Law regret the great loss that the departure of such an outstanding advocate of the Digital transformation represents for Costa Rica, we can only welcome his participation in this International Institution, which he now joins.

We wish him every success in this new stage and look forward to great progress for Costa Rica and the Latin world through his membership of CEA Digital Law
