Lubna Shuja wins the Law Society of England and Wales presidential election

The Euro-American Committee of Digital Law - CEA Digital Law warmly congratulates Lubna Shuja.

Lubna Shuja has won the Law Society of England and Wales 2020 election for deputy vice president.

She takes up office as deputy vice president on 14 October 2020, and will become vice president in 2021 and president in 2022.

Lubna has been a member of the Law Society Council since 2013 and has chaired the key Membership and Communications Committee since 2018. She is also a member of the Law Society Board.

Lubna is principal solicitor at Legal Swan Solicitors in Birmingham. She specialises in professional discipline and regulation, and is also a mediator in civil and family disputes.

Lubna said:

‘It is a great honour to be elected to this role. I look forward to taking on the challenges ahead and working together with the other office holders and staff. I am proud to be a solicitor, and I am very aware of the issues facing our profession and the public at this exceptionally difficult time.

‘I want to help our members meet those challenges, while making sure that the profession maintains its prominence nationally and internationally, through various campaigns including access to justice and the rule of law.’

Simon Davis, president of the Law Society, said:

‘I want to extend my sincere congratulations to Lubna Shuja, who emerged as the winner from an extremely strong field of candidates. I wish her all the best for her three years as an office holder.’

Notes to editors

The Law Society has three elected office holders: the president, the vice president and the deputy vice president. Each holds office for one year. Every year, the Council elects the deputy vice president; the previous year’s deputy vice president becomes vice president, and the vice president becomes president.

The handover takes place at the annual general meeting, which has now moved to October.

The office holders are the Law Society’s principal ambassadors and represent the organisation at home and abroad. The presidency is a full-time appointment, and the president chairs the Council.

About the Law Society

The Law Society is the independent professional body that works globally to support and represent solicitors, promoting the highest professional standards, the public interest and the rule of law.
